London Philharmonic Orchestra - March 2018

Borodin and Schubert

Sunday 04 March 2018

Devonshire Park Theatre

Borodin String Quartet No. 2
Schubert String Quintet in C major

Soloists of the London Philharmonic Orchestra

Soul music, Austrian style. Even by Schubert’s standards, the C major String Quintet is something special, and with one of the most exquisitely beautiful slow movements in all music, it’s a regular choice on Desert Island Discs. But it’s one of those pieces that you really have to hear live. Five LPO musicians give it their all today; first, though, they take a journey into the romantic heart of Russia. Borodin’s luscious Second Quartet is so tuneful that its slow movement became a pop hit in the 1950s! There might only be four musicians here, but believe us – the emotions could hardly be bigger
