The World Of Miniature

Sunday 23 September 2018

Devonshire Park Theatre

Rachmaninoff Trio Elegiac No. 1 in G minor
Brahms Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor, Op.101
Schubert Piano Trio No. 2 in E flat major

Soloists of the London Philharmonic Orchestra

When you add a cello and a violin to a grand piano, you open up a new world of emotion and expression. It may only comprise three players, but the great composers have confided some of their most powerful and intimate thoughts to the piano trio – whether it’s the tempestuous emotion-recollected-in-tranquillity of Brahms’s sweeping Third Trio, or a vision of pure lyrical loveliness from the greatest songwriter of all time, Franz Schubert. Rachmaninoff’s impassioned youthful Trio sets the mood, and proves that great musical experiences can sometimes come in surprisingly small packages.
